Groundbreaking Ceremony for the new Water Treatment Plant

The City of Lexington will host a groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of their new Water Treatment Plant on Monday, September 26th at 3pm at the future Water Treatment Plant location, 905 S Pine St.  The ceremony is open to the public.  Parking will be available at the Lexington Community Church located at 805 S Pine St.

This Ceremony marks the beginning of construction for the City's new Water Treatment Plant, which will ensure reliable water for generations to come.  The new Water Treatment Plant will replace the current water plant built in 1946.  The water plant project was designed by Farnsworth Group, Inc. of Bloomington and will include installation of a horizontal pressure filter to remove iron, ion exhange vessels to continue to provied softened water, anion exchange vessels to reduce color, a 100,000 gallon grouns storage tank and a new groundwater supply well (well #8).  The new water plant will also treat groundwater from the City's four existing wells.

The approximate $4.2 million dollar project will be financed by a 20-year 1.86% interest rate Illinois Environmental Protection Agency's Public Water Supply Loan Program.  Construction on the new plant will be led by P.J. Hoerr, Inc. of Normal and is planned to be completed by winter 2017.  For more information, contact City Hall at 329 W Main St.
