City of Lexington News

Door-to-Door Sales

With good weather, door-to-door sales people come to town more frequently.  The City has policies and procedures which regulate this activity for the safety and peace-of-mind of residents.  The full policy can be found on the City’s website under Local Government.  Search for Chapter 140- Peddling and Soliciting.  A brief description of that policy is included here.

City policy on door-to-door solicitors:

The City of Lexington requires registration of ANYONE/GROUP going door-to-door to sell goods of any kind or services, insurance, subscriptions, or seeking monetary or other valuable contributions, etc.  Registration must be completed at City Hall prior to solicitation.  Notice of this requirement is posted on signs at all the entrances to the City.  Solicitors MAY NOT solicit before 9:00 a.m. or after sundown Monday through Saturday, or at any time on Sunday or a State or National holiday.

Registration by the City does not endorse any service or product.  Solicitors are given a fluorescent green registration label that has been given an expiration date.  Residents should always ask to see this registration.  If none can be produced, or if the solicitor fails to leave when asked, notify the City (365-3331) during business hours, or call 309-888-5030 to report the solicitor to the Lexington Police Department.  Residents may also call at any time that a solicitor makes them uneasy or behaves questionable.
